Sense of infinity

モロッコは可愛いデザインで溢れていた。

その中でも特徴的だったのが、至る場所で見かけた、Zelligeと呼ばれるモザイク模様。これは職人たちがタイルを焼き、割り、削り、並べ、組み上げるんだって。そのほとんどの工程が手作業。シンプルにこの装飾を作った職人技に感動する。

宗教についても調べてみると、イスラム教では神様は形として表現することは控えられていて、その代わりに、神様の無限性や広がりを感じさせるために、人々はこうした幾何学模様やアラベスクなどの装飾を発展させていったみたい。

まさに、「神秘的」という言葉がしっくりくる模様だと思った。

そして、それが多くの人の共通の感覚として、これまで受け継がれてきたこと、彼らの生活の一部となっていることが、面白いよね。

There are so many beautiful designs and patterns everywhere in Morocco.

I was simply amazed by the craftsmanship behind them, especially the traditional Moroccan mosaic pattern called Zellige. I learned that artisans create them by firing, cutting, shaping, arranging, and assembling small pieces of tile by hand.

I also looked into the religious background. I learned that in Islam, God is not represented in physical form. Instead, geometric patterns, arabesques, and other designs developed to express a sense of infinity.

While getting to know more about the background and seeing them, a word “神秘的 shinpiteki ” came into my mind. It means something mysterious and profound, beyond ordinary human understanding.

It’s interesting that this sense of design has been shared and passed down through so many people for a long time, and naturally blended into their everyday life.
